Over the past three weekends, Snow Australia has been lucky enough to bring our Park & Pipe Scholarship and Freeride athletes together at the NSTC in Jindabyne for a series of high-energy training camps.
The idea behind the camps was simple: give athletes a chance to reconnect after a big international season, get some quality time on the airbag, and dive into the kind of high performance habits that can really set them up for a successful domestic season.
Across the three blocks, we had a great mix of athletes—from those in the Emerging Talent Program (ETP), all the way up to NSWIS and World Cup podium finishers. It was awesome to see experienced athletes like Josh Robertson-Hahn and Abi Harrigan step up as leaders. They helped set the tone, showing younger athletes what a strong high performance mindset looks like in practice.
A big part of the camp’s success was thanks to our amazing coaching team. Across freeski, freeride, and snowboard disciplines, we were lucky to have:
• Leon Tarbotton (Freeski)
• Greg Janneau (Freeski)
• Jake Woods (Freeride)
• Benny Mates (Snowboard)
• Ryan Tiene (Snowboard)
Their knowledge, energy, and support made a huge difference and helped athletes get the most out of each session—whether it was on the airbag, in the Acro space, or just talking through goals and mindset.
Off the hill, the athletes also spent time in the classroom. Layne Flanery, NSWIS Strength & Conditioning Coach, led sessions on recovery, physical prep, and the foundations of strength training. What really made it click was how she tailored everything to snow sports—helping athletes understand how these concepts directly apply to what they do every day.
Between airbag sessions, the Acro space was another key training environment, giving athletes a chance to build movement skills and stay sharp between reps.
All up, these performance blocks were the perfect way to bring the crew back together and get the winter season rolling. Huge thanks to the athletes, coaches, and support crew who made it all happen!
