Snow Skills is a curriculum‑aligned, off‑snow physical literacy program, delivered through two speciality programs:

Freestyle Ninja Circuit – Years 5–6
Freestyle Park Circuit – Years 7–8

Snow Skills focuses on balance, locomotion, coordination, and object control to build proficiency in these foundational skills to support safe, confident, and enjoyable progression to on‑snow sport experiences.

The program is underpinned by Fundamental Movement Skills, snow‑specific movement skills, and technical, tactical, and interpersonal learning relevant to snow sports.

The program consists of six lessons and delivers a unique, engaging experience through dynamic circuits and movement stations, each offering green, blue and black difficulty levels so students can choose the challenge that’s right for them.

Created with the support of the Play Well Grant from the Australian Sports Commission, the program is supported by high-quality resources, including clear activity posters to guide students at each station, alongside detailed lesson plans and support videos—making it easy for teachers to deliver with confidence.

Equipment and School Facilities

Only minimal specialised equipment is required. Activities use standard gymnastics and balance equipment commonly available in schools, with any additional equipment suitable for use across other Physical Education activities. Teachers can modify equipment as needed, and alternative equipment and station options are provided to support flexible delivery.

The program also uses the school environment to develop climbing, balancing, landing and jumping skills, drawing on existing equipment and built‑in features where available.

This curriculum was developed and authored by the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER) in partnership with Snow Australia.
