Name: Lily Murnane

Home Australian Mountain: Falls Creek
Australian Club / Team: Victorian XC Ski Team
International Club / Team: Montana State University Ski Team
Year of Birth: 2003
When did you begin XC Skiing: I began XC skiing right when I could walk. I had trails right outside my house growing up, so my parents took that opportunity to put me on skis as soon as possible and share their love of the sport. I have been XC skiing ever since.
Why I love competing in XC Skiing: I have the opportunity to meet new people from all over the world, I get to travel and compete in new places that bring once in a lifetime experiences, and I have an expanded viewpoint at what it means to be a part of the ski community. Competing also allows me to push myself, mentally and physically, along with learning from mistakes, and celebrating success. Though this is an individual sport, competing alongside a team with similar mindsets is a special experience, and it makes competing even more exciting to have other motivated, supportive individuals around.
Favourite race style / distance: I enjoy classic sprints and 10km skate
Career highlights / best results:
  • Whistler, Canada: Junior World Ski Championships, 2023: 10km skate
  • Sun Valley, Idaho: US Super Tour, 2022: 10km skate
  • West Yellowstone, Montana, 2021: 5km classic
  • Soldier Hollow, Utah, 2021: 5km skate
  • Government Peak, Alaska, 2023: 5km skate
Training advice: Training takes a huge dedication of time and energy. It is a great opportunity to learn from those around you, as well as finding the fun within hard work. Training can become overwhelming, so finding balance is important to make sure you can participate in the sport for a long time. When training, having a clear goal or intention for the workout, big or small, is helpful to get the most out of each training. Goals do not always have to be complex; it can just be "enjoy the outdoors." Training is a good way to learn how your body responds to different amounts of volume and intensity, and learning how to recover from the amount you do.
