Turn & Burn has been awarded the Pathway Club Excellence of the Year Award in the 2023 Snow Australia Community Sport Awards. This award recognises a pathway club that has implemented a program, project, or campaign that has provided significant benefits to their club.

Based in Thredbo, Turn & Burn was established six years ago to provide inclusive programs for all levels in several disciplines, assisting athletes with off-snow readiness.

Recently, Turn & Burn collaborated with Thredbo Mountain Academy to successfully deliver year-round coaching, yielding excellent results.

Several of Snow Australia’s Emerging Talent Program athletes have participated in Turn & Burn programs along with members of the Junior World Championships team.

Ryan Tiene, Turn & Burn head coach and founder, recently coached member Ally Hickman to third place in Slopestyle at the the Junior World Championships.

Tiene said the year-round coaching has provided stability and reliability for both athletes and coaches.

“Over the past few years, our vision has really taken shape,” he said.

“As with all things in snow sports, there are lots of pieces to the puzzle, and I would like to thank Thredbo Mountain Academy for buying in on our vision of year-round coaching, facilitating the long-term engagement of coaches, and reducing turnover of skilled mentors.”

Tiene also extended thanks to Snow Australia’s National Snowsports Training Centre in Jindabyne and Thredbo Parks for assisting with world-class facilities for Turn & Burn athletes.

“I would also like to credit NSTC for helping us create an airbag program that has allowed our athletes to excel.

“Last but not least Charles Beckinsale and Thredbo Parks for creating amazing facilities for us to train on.”

Turn & Burn is looking forward to upcoming camps and providing athletes with development opportunities for years to come.
