Thredbo’s Triple Crown Big Air event delivered a high-impact showcase of athletic talent as skiers and snowboarders took on the iconic Q5 jump in Antons Terrain Park. With this year’s event sanctioned as an Australia New Zealand Cup (ANC) there were standout performances and tightly contested podium battles.
In the Women’s Free Ski, Daisy Thomas stamped her authority on the event early, earning 87.00 points for her first run. In a bold move, Thomas opted not to complete a second run, and it was a decision that paid off for the Olympic hopeful as her rivals could not eclipse her first-round score.
Madeleine Disbrow delivered a strong 82.00 in her opening run and secured second place without needing a second attempt. The real drama unfolded in the race for third, where Indra Brown surged late with a standout 75.67 in her second run to edge past Maya Broadbent, capping off a tightly contested battle for the final podium spot.
In the Men’s Free Ski, Fergus McArthur delivered a commanding second run under pressure to claim first place with a flawless 90.00. Leading into his second run, the stakes were high for McArthur as Lucas Ball set the early benchmark at 85.00 in his first run before opting to sit out the second and he ultimately finished second overall. The battle for third was tightly contested as Aidan Laing posted an 83.00 in his second run to edge past Hugo Broadbent by a single point with both athletes saving their best run for last. Angus Falconer wasn’t far behind, finishing fifth with 81.00 which was just two points shy of the podium in a nail-biting race for the minor placings.
In the Women’s Snowboard, Mela Stalker claimed victory with a powerhouse second run, posting a standout 91.67 to rise to the top of the podium. Her first run 78.30 run was solid, but it was the second-round attempt that sealed the win. Ally Hickman scored an impressive 84.67 in her second run to secure second place overall. In the battle for third, Jess McGregor needed to beat Ava Beer’s first-run score of 63.30, and she did just that with a composed 69.67 in her second run, edging into the final podium spot.
In the Men’s Snowboard Tiarn Collins claimed the top spot with a sharp and confident first run, earning an overall score of 92.67 without needing a second attempt. Joshua Li followed in second, posting 89.33 in his second run, while Zephyr Lovelock locked in third place with an 85.33 from his opening run, rounding out a competitive field where early execution proved decisive.
