Snow Australia community members recognised at VICSport Awards

Members of the Snow Australia community were recognised at last night’s 2023 Victorian Sport Awards. 

OWIA Mogul’s Coach Peter McNeil, Snowboarder Scotty James and Mogul Skier Jakara Anthony were all awarded top gongs for their achievements last year. 

Scotty James took home the Frank Wilkes Award which recognises a Victorian individual athlete who has achieved outstanding results in respect to performances at a national/international level in the male category during the 2023 year. 

James’ 2023 season results included a win at the Secret Garden World Cup in China before another top 10 performance at Copper Mountain before achieving his third Laax Open before going on to a record sixth X-Games SuperPipe gold in Aspen.

Jakara Anthony’s remarkable 2022-23 season saw her achieve nine World Cup medals and earn her third Crystal Globe trophy, recognised last night with the Kitty McEwan Award. 

The Kitty McEwan Award recognises a Victorian individual athlete who has achieved outstanding results in respect to performances at a national/international level in the female category during the 2023 year.

Peter McNeil was awarded the Leasexpress Coach of the Year. The award recognises Victorian coaches who have achieved outstanding coaching performances with Victorian athletes or teams during the 2023 year. 

McNeil’s mentoring of Matt Graham and Jakara Anthony saw them achieve a combined 13 World Cup medals in 2023 that included a double-gold medal performance at the FIS World Cup in Deer Valley.

Snow Australia congratulates Anthony, James and McNeil once again on their outstanding achievements during the 2023 year.
