INTERSCHOOLS

Snow Australia Interschools has a new home at interschools.com.au. The new website allows users to navigate more easily through the website.

Along with Interschools event information, you can find information on the Snow Australia Athlete Pathway and view our Interschools Olympian and Paralympian profiles, which features over 60 athletes who started their snowsports competition days at Interschools.

In the coming months we will also be launching an Online Interschools Officials Training Course, which has been designed for volunteers, to provide critical information and resources to help be an effective Interschools official.

The course covers content such as understanding the key roles from race department to Interschools officials, the correct gate passage for competitors and how to identify disqualifications. The course will provide all officials with the information and confidence they need to volunteer at any Interschools competition.

It is also recommended that school coordinators, team managers, coaches and parents complete the course as it provides valuable information on our course start and finish procedures, along with the rules of competition.

We look forward to the Snow Australia Interschools events returning in 2021. Check the new website for further updates.

SPORTING SCHOOLS FUNDING FOR TERM 2

Applications close March 12 for Term 2 Sporting Schools Funding and Snow Australia is excited to offer two primary school programs, Little Shredders and Little Gliders, to Sporting Schools participants across Australia’s school yards.

Little Shredders is based on the hugely popular Burton Riglet product that provides the opportunity for students to learn the basics of snowsports using custom-made modified equipment, built specifically for use in the school yard.

This cutting-edge participation program is focused on introducing students of all ages to snowsports, with the aim of developing their knowledge, physical preparedness and confidence to go to the snow and experience Australia’s coolest sport.

Little Gliders is based on the successful Nordic Rocks program from North America and uses strap-on skis that can be used on snow, carpet, grass or synthetic grass. Activities include introductions to classic and skate skiing, downhill techniques such as tucking and slalom, synchronised skiing and obstacle courses, as well as adapted games such as 1-ski soccer, 'Pass The Yeti' and snowman frisbee.

Little Gliders is available to ACT schools only and is delivered by an external coach. For ACT Schools, new in 2021 is the additional program add-on to a visit to Corin Forest, a snow resort 45-minute drive from the centre of Canberra, after schools have completed either of the off-snow programs.

Adding a school visit to Corin Forest to the end of the program allows students to use their recently learned skills on-snow. The resort provides a fantastic environment for children to experience actual skiing and snowboarding for those new to the sport. Corin Forest can provide lift tickets, equipment hire, a ski/snowboard lesson, and snow play.
