Dear Members,
As we pray for more snow (it will come!) here is an update on the programs, events and initiatives taking place in the Snowy Mountains over the next couple of weeks.
Welcome to Winter - Alpine Catch Up
Calling all skiers who are not school aged but keen to have a race and support the Amelia McGuiness Foundation
All skill levels are encouraged to enter including former Interschools competitors, tertiary students, parents, teachers, school coordinators, masters racers, and the list goes on...

There are many training opportunities coming up for youth cross country skiers. Make sure you follow NSW Team App to receive updates on holiday and season on snow and off snow training programs.
Come and Try Cross Country Skiing this July
Ever wanted to try Cross Country Skiing or learn new techniques and skills?
This opportunity at the Perisher Cross Country Centre on 6 and 13 July is open to anyone who is new to cross country skiing and wants to try a new snow sport. The day involves a two hour lesson conducted by professional ski instructors. Participants will need to bring their own cross country equipment.

Planning to do some cross country ski racing this season? A variety of events are on offer in Perisher Valley and surrounds and there is something for all skill/ability levels and interests.
XC Week (August 3-11) Calendar
The majority of events can be entered on-line through the SSA events website - https://www.skiandsnowboard.org.au/events/
Please plan ahead, activate and update your Snowracer membership and SnowID (if you haven't already) and enter on-line by the closing dates. Your event organisers love participants who enter ahead of time, it makes their jobs so much easier on the day. If you must enter on the day, be there early and register.
KAC Cross Country Classic
Registrations for the iconic KAC Cross Country Classic are now open and tjhey are offering
FREE registartions for those under 25 and over 80 years.

SSA Northern Snowboard Community Catch Up
2019 SSA Northern Snowboard Interschool’s Training Scholarship - Due June 21
SSA Northern Snowboard, in conjunction with Perisher, would like to offer Interschools Competitors the opportunity to participate in Interschools training at a subsidised rate.
The main objective of the SSA Northern Snowboard Interschools Training Scholarship is to increase participation of snowboard athletes at the Interschools level and for young athletes to gain the confidence to also compete other snowboard competitions throughout the season.
Perisher are offering a four-day training program that will focus on techniques and skills before the Interschools competitions. More information on the Training program is available from the Perisher website at https://www.perisher.com.au/wsc/interschools-training-camps
The Interschools Training Program is valued at $620 for the four-days. SSA Northern Snowboard is offering to subsidise the cost of the program to successful applicants by 50%.
The dates of the program are 2 to 5 July 2019. Participants are supervised during the lunch break. We recommend that you load your child’s Perisher Card (lift ticket or pass) with some Perisher Money or provide them with cash to purchase lunch.
SSA Northern Snowboard are accepting Expressions of Interest to snowboard Interschools athletes who fulfil the following criteria:
- Applicant must be between the age of 8 and 14 and must have participated in Interschools previously;
- Applicants must live in NSW, ACT or QLD
- Applicants may be individuals or as a group school team;
- Applicants are not required to be a member of SSA, however must have a current Snow ID;
- Applicants are required to list their previous Interschools event participation;
- Applicants will be required to outline their anticipated participant in snowboard events for 2019;
- Applicants must not be a member of a resort based full time program;
- Available spaces will be strictly limited with applications closing 21 June 2019 so apply early to avoid disappointment.
Two Active Kids Vouchers now available to NSW families
NSW snow sport families can now access two $100 vouchers to contribute to the cost of school-enrolled children’s participation sport.
The vouchers are available to spend with an approved provider through the NSW Government’s Active Kids initiative.

Little Shredders and Little Gliders Community Session
A combined Little Shredders and Little Gliders community session was recently held in Canberra, giving participants new to the school a chance to learn new skills needed for skiing, snowboarding and cross country skiing. Participants choose to participate in either program to work on equipment familiarisation, agility, balance and snow safety, with group activities held using both sets of equipment.
