“Grow the human and the elite athlete will rise.”

These were the closing words from Alisa Camplin, Australian Olympic Gold Medallist, as she wrapped up her guest-speaker session on day one of the Snow Australia Coach Academy Live Lab, held in Jindabyne during the last week of May, 2021.

The Live Lab featured 30 emerging performance coaches across six Winter Olympic disciplines, gathering over three days to explore personal purpose, big-picture vision and practical applications of key strategies to become the best coaches they can be, now and into the future.

The Live Lab was hosted by the Snow Australia Coach Academy Team (Chip Richards, Ben Wordsworth and Peter Topalovic) and covered a variety of theoretical topics and hands-on practice in the science and art of peak performance coaching.  The Lab wove together full-group and discipline-focused discussion sessions, National Coach and Olympic Athlete forums and a stream of high-impact guest speakers and facilitators, including Alisa Camplin, Nam Baldwin, Cameron Tradell, Jan Hutnan and Carrie Graf.

The program built momentum remotelyt over the past 12 months, through a series of regular “Gold Medal Coach” zoom sessions, small group integration sessions, podcast interviews and video lesson content. The May Live Lab provided the first opportunity for the Coach Academy cohort to gather in person and it packed a punch! The three days marked a powerful launch to Year 2 of the Coach Academy and set a high bar for energy, commitment and passion among the growing Coach Academy participants, all of whom now have a chance to apply the key lessons learned on a daily basis as they step into the 2021 Australian domestic winter season.

After such a successful event, the program will continue expanding the depth and impact of the Snow Australia Coach Academy on all participants in the months to come, with virtual engagement continuing on a monthly basis until the next Live Lab, currently planned for October.
