Forty-seven members join Coach Academy in 2022

Snow Australia’s Coach Academy will kick off next week with a new cohort of 47 members, following an application process and formalisation of a new four-year cycle for the program.

The cohort includes previous Coach Academy members, along with new coaches of the program across the Snow Australia Affiliated Pathway Clubs.

The fundamental aim of the program is to create a pathway for emerging high-performance Australian winter sport coaches to progress on their journey and maximise their potential within winter sports and beyond.

“One of the unexpected gifts of the last two years is that we have had a unique opportunity to consistently bring our strongest emerging coaches together across all winter disciplines and to build the foundation for a genuine coach development pathway,” said Coach Academy Lead Facilitator, Chip Richards.

“It’s been exciting to feel the momentum building in service of really setting up our domestic coaching community to build successful careers and progress powerfully into high-performance.

“We’ve had an overwhelming number of applications this year and we had to take time to really consider each applicant.

“It’s inspiring to see how much passion this next generation of high-performance coaches has for growth and development, and how much they already have to offer each other and the sport as a whole.

“I am honoured to lead this amazing group of coaches on their coaching journey and look forward to welcoming the new cohort in the kick-off session next week,” he said.

This year’s program starts on June 15 with a live remote zoom session, which will include a full introduction to the 2022 Coach Academy and a special guest 'Gold Medal Coach' session with Olympic coach Pete McNeil and Beijing 2022 moguls gold medallist Jakara Anthony.

Along with monthly live remote ‘Gold Medal Coach’ sessions, the Coach Academy program includes an evolving curriculum of dynamic learning modules, in-person Live Labs, the Coach Academy podcast series, discussion forums and other complementary resources.

The Coach Academy is designed as a four-year program that aligns with the quad Olympic cycle, aimed at preparing our next generation of coaches for success at a National Team and Olympic level.

Placement in the program is reviewed and renewed annually based on engagement and participation. Members are assigned session homework, coach challenges, mentor / pod groups and learning modules, along with engagement in the live sessions.
