The International Ski Federation (FIS) has concluded its Autumn forums with a number of meetings involving the sub-committees for Park & Pipe, Freestyle (formerly Moguls & Aerials), Snowboard Cross & Alpine Ski Cross (formerly grouped together as Cross), and Snowboard Alpine, leading up to the large Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski Committee Meeting.
The forums confirmed the World Cup calendars of all disciplines for the upcoming season.
In the Park and Pipe programme, freeski will see four halfpipe, six slopestyle and two big air competitions, while for snowboard there will be three halfpipe, six slopestyle and two big air World Cup events. The Olympic Winter Games kicking off in Beijing on 4 February will include halfpipe, slopestyle and big air events for both freeski and snowboard.
Moguls and Aerials schedules were also confirmed, with the 2021/22 calendar featuring ten moguls, five dual moguls, nine aerials, and three aerials mixed team competitions. For the first time this season, FIS will award crystal globes for women's and men's dual moguls, along with awards for the traditional moguls and overall freestyle classifications.
The 2021/22 Audi FIS Alpine Ski Cross World Cup will feature 14 standard format races and one mixed team competition, with the season opening in November in Secret Garden, China, for the Olympic test event. Going forward the discipline will be referred to as Alpine Ski Cross as the transition from the snowboard, freestyle and freeski FIS umbrella to the one of alpine skiing has officially started. For the time being ski and snowboard cross will still remain together at major events and use the same course. For the upcoming season the Snowboard Cross World Cup will feature eight standard format races and two mixed team competitions.
Finally, the 2021/22 snowboard alpine World Cup will feature six parallel giant slalom, five parallel slalom, five PSL team, and one PGS team competitions. Top priority in last week’s meetings was given to adding more snowboard alpine events at major events, with a mixed team competition set to make its World Championships debut at Bakuriani (GEO) in 2023.
