Snow Australia Award Nominees
- Coach of the Year - Alexei Sotskov
This was Alexei Sotskov 's second year leading the Australian Team on World Cup in Europe, and the first time Alexei and any Australian XC Team have contested the entire World Cup season. Starting in Finland in November and finishing in Finland in March, Alexei's season included 12 World Cup venues in eight countries, as well as the 2025 World Championship in Trondheim. Working with a dozen other wax techs and support staff across the season and supporting ten different athletes, the only constant throughout the season was Alexei at every event. In many respects this was a breakthrough season, with the team ending up ranked 13th for women and 15th for men on the Olympic Nation ranking list. |
- Junior Athlete of the Year - Jayden Spring
Jayden Spring was the leading male junior cross country skier for 2024-2025. Highlights from his year included 18th in the 2025 World Junior Championship Sprint qualification (ending up 27th, making it Top 30 at World Junior Championship for the second year in a row), winning the 2024 Australian Open Sprint Championship, and making a clean sweep at the 2024 Australian Open Rollerski Championship (Sprint and 10km). |
- Outstanding Achievement - Rosie Fordham
Rosie Fordham's Silver medal in the 10km Freestyle at the World U23 Championship is Australia's first cross country skiing medal at a FIS World Championship. Before this season Australia's highest place at the World U23 Championship was Rosie's own 19th place from 2024 (equal with Ben Sim from 2008). Australia's best World Junior result was 21st from 2003 and best World Championship result was 22nd from 2019 (now Rosie's own 20th from Trondheim 2025). |
- Male Athlete of the Year - Lars Young Vik
Lars Young Vik had his best ever season in 2024/2025, with solid performances on World Cup and at the 2025 World Championship. At Trondheim 2025 Lars achieved the best Sprint performance since 2005, finishing 33rd just 0.2 of a second outside of qualifying for the finals. Lars came even closer to the finals at the World Cup in Lahti, taking 31st place and missing out on the top 30 by 0.02 of a second. This milestone seems sure to fall in the coming years. |
- Female Athlete of the Year - Rosie Fordham
Rosie Fordham had a breakthrough season, achieving personal and Australian best results at the highest level of the sport. The Silver medal at the 2025 World U23 Championships in Italy was a clear standout performance, Australia's first medal at a World Championship. Rosie's World Championship results in Trondheim 2025 were outstanding, including 20th in the 50k Freestyle, 15th in the Team Sprint and 12th in the Women's Relay. Contesting all six events, Rosie's 44th in the Sprint Freestyle, 38th in the Skiathlon and 37th in the 10km Classic demonstrated excellence across all distances and styles. On World Cup Rosie scored World Cup points on 7 occasions. Outside of World Cup, Rosie also won the 2024 AUS-NZL Continental Cup and took 5th place at the 2025 US Championship. |
