Craig Windham

Discipline: Para Alpine Skiing
Olympic Participation: Lillehammer 1994
Medal awarded in: 2021

Craig Windham competed at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Paralympics, where he was the team captain for one of the most successful Australian Winter Paralympic teams in history.

Despite having selected only six athletes for the Games, all para-alpine skiers, the Australian team managed to win nine medals at those Games. Three of those were gold medals, the result of outstanding performances produced by Michael Norton and Michael Milton. Australia finished in 5th overall in the alpine skiing competition and 9th in the field of 31 nations in the total medal count.

Under the guidance of high-profile coach Steve Graham, who was at his first Games experience as head coach of the Australian Winter Paralympic team, Windham competed in the Men’s Slalom LW6/8 and Men’s Giant Slalom LW6/8 (the categories for standing, single-arm amputee skiers).

Despite the team’s success, he had a somewhat disappointing Games personally and did not manage to score a placement in either race - his results also affected by a leg injury suffered during training for the downhill event.
