What are the Disciplines in the Interschools?

The Interschools is the entry point for grass roots competitive snowsports in Australia.

For those new to Interschools who have only been skiing or snowboarding for a little while, a great way to start is with the traditional Alpine and and/or Snowboard GS events. Cross Country Skiing is another entry point to the sport which has long been associated with the Interschools events.

To help you, we have developed the following outline taking into consideration the required level of ability that would meet the demands of the sport, and the terrain the sport is conducted on.

Alpine Giant Slalom events are conducted on a sloped course, and competitors must pass around all gates / flags correctly. The events are timed.

Ski Cross and Snowboard Cross events are conducted on a course that resembles a BMX track, with banked turns and small jump features. The events are timed. At the Olympics the races are run with four people on the course during the same run, however in the Interschools competitors compete individually on the course.

Moguls events are conducted an a sloped course that has not been groomed. competitors make quick turns in the bumps and also do a small jump near the bottom of the course. The event is judged and takes into account the quality of the turns and the execution of the air / jump trick.

Ski and Snowboard Slopestyle is conducted on a course which contains rails or boxes as well as jumps. The event is judged, and competitors combine rail slides with jumps for their scores. Please note that this event is only only to secondary aged students.
