Spirit of Interschools Award - Previous winners

This award recognises students who, through their actions, have embodied the spirit of Interschools. This award is not necessarily about performance but considers participation in multiple disciplines, multiclass participation, longevity, leadership, and support of their own school snow sports program.

oscar downes

Oscar was Captain of Snow Sports at Knox Grammar School in 2024 and more than successfully role models the behaviour of “giving it a go” and that participation can be fun and competitive. His biggest contribution as Captain was leading the team of nearly 60 boys in an inaugural “Captain’s run” before the scheduled race day. This gave the primary school aged boys an opportunity to learn and gain valuable tips from Oscar and it brought the whole team together, connecting the team across age groups. In volunteering his time, the support and encouragement the event created for the boys, especially those young and new to Interschools, was invaluable. Oscar made a presentation at his schools orientation evening and senior school assembly on his journey through Interschools. This resulted in Oscar raising his profile, that of Interschools participation and the ability for students to develop a relationship with Oscar.
