The Para Snowsports Pathway starts at DWA where members will be introduced to snow and look to gain independence when skiing/riding. The time frame for independent skiing and riding is different for every member. After this, time on snow and variable terrain is crucial to build up confidence and skills on the mountain. Members can sign up for DWA camps, more specifically the race camps to see if this would be a pathway they are interested in. Para futures is held every year through Snow Australia where selected members will be able to meet the high performance Para Snowsports Team, be assessed by national classifiers and look to see if this is the next step in their journey.
If competitive snowsports is the next step then a local club at the mountain will provide more training and time on snow. There is a link below for the list of clubs and their locations. Alpine - Recognised Clubs - Snow Australia
For upcoming athletes that are in a club and furthering their skills, there will be opportunity to train with Snow Australia at a development camp. As time on snow is limited here in Australia, athletes are then recommended to seek training in the northern hemisphere for their winter.
There are a variety of camps in North America for Para Athletes to train and begin their competition career. While overseas there may be an opportunity for international classification, which will allow athletes to compete. From here there is a pathway through the different levels of international competition: • FIS races • Continental Cups • World Cup • World Championships • Paralympic Winter Games
This pathway for Para Snowsports athletes will be different for each individual as it may not be linear through to the PWG, some athletes may spend more time in club level and some athletes will have different goals.
