Team Hotham

Team Hotham (formally Mount Hotham Race Squad) was founded in 1972 on a strong, community driven desire to make snowsports accessible to all. The birth of the club created opportunities for training and racing at Mt Hotham, fostering a healthy competitive relationship with Mount Buller and Falls Creek Race Clubs.

From small beginnings, the club has grown and grown, expanding their offering across all disciplines of snowsports. Rich in alpine history, the club now offers freeski, ski cross and snowboard cross training at a varied level of commitment. Members can be engaged at various ages (from under 8’s to Masters!).

The bulk of Team Hotham’s program operations are in Hotham ski resort. Located at the base of the Summit Chair, Team Hotham’s headquarters boast a multi-level, multi-focused layout. Everything a member could need is there- Equipment storage, Ski/Board turning, Gym, Video Analysis, Kitchen, Bathrooms and a centralised office for Team Hotham staff to work and collaborate. Best of all, it is on snow:  Ski in, ski out.

Team Hotham embrace the travel loads that the National and International level of competition require, hosting training opportunities not only in Hotham, but across the ditch in New Zealand. Program Director Jeff Books celebrates the fact that their club can expand its offering with its overseas training and competition camps, ‘By training and competing in NZ during the Australian season, our athletes are better equipped to manage their first Northern Hemisphere training camps and competitions that the sports demand’.

Ski and snowboard coaches often start their careers as athletes or club members themselves. Team Hotham has a rich history of developing coaches, with some starting as participants in Team Hotham programs, transitioning into instructors and then onto coaches, with the likes of Hugh Brooks now coaching fellow Team Hotham alumni (and Olympian) Harry Laidlaw at a World Cup and World Championship level and Danny Geiger becoming a two-time Olympic Coach in Ski Cross.

Team Hotham have a committed working relationship to athlete and staff health & wellbeing, partnering with Keiser Health Performance and Snow Performance, expanding their program offering.
