The Travelplan Ski Northern NSW & QLD Interschools Snowsport Championships has wrapped up after 5 competition days in Thredbo this week. The Championships bought together 841 studentsfrom 154 schools for a spectacular week of competition.
Across the Championships, competitors generated an impressive 1,852 event entries, highlighting the continued growth and popularity of school snow sports across Northern New South Wales and Queensland.
Students competed across the disciplines Alpine, Ski Cross, Moguls, Snowboard GS and Snowboard Cross. From first-time competitors to seasoned Interschools athletes, the Championships provided memorable experiences.
We would like to thank Thredbo Resort for their outstanding support throughout the Championships. Despite the slow start to the snow season, Thredbo worked tirelessly to create and prepare high-quality event courses. This year also marked the first use of Friday Flat for night events, which proved to be a resounding success and a memorable addition to the Championships.
Snow Australia Interschools spoke to Arabella Wheatley, a Year 12 student from Pymble Ladies College, who competed in her last Regional Interschools Championships. We asked Arabella about her event experience.
“I didn't expect there to be much snow, so it was great to see the conditions and get back into racing.I've been doing Interschools since kindergarten, so it's something I've looked forward to every year. It's [also] great to have the domestic season finally underway.”
What does Arabella love most about snow sports?
“What I love most about snow sports is that my family gets so involved, and I get to ski with my big sister.”
On how she feels being in her last Interschools year.
“I've been competing in Interschools since kindergarten, so it's always a highlight of my winter. It's hard to believe this is my last year of Interschools. I've been competing for so long, and it's exciting to finish on a high. I'm excited to make the most of my final year of Interschools racing and enjoy every moment.”
Snow Australia Interschools would also like to thank the schools, families, and the volunteers, whose contributions helped make the Championships possible.
Congratulations to all competitors on their achievements, and we look forward to hosting the Sydney Regional Championships in Perisher next week, as well as the South Australia and Tasmania Interschools Championships in Falls Creek.
