SkiMo Community Update - July 2025

Published Fri 04 Jul 2025

G'day Skimo Enthusiasts,

After two storm cycles the season is well and truly underway and with that the road to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina. Our athletes are spread across the northern and southern hemispheres preparing themselves for the upcoming World Cup and Olympic season, but we are also focused on our season here in Australia with the prospect of two Skimo races on the horizon. Having wrapped up an amazing season that saw standout performances coming in both individual and team events we had five new Australians make their World Cup debuts, joining the six returning athletes from the previous season bringing our total to 11 across the season.

Between our Falls Creek event on the 24th of August and our Perisher event on the weekend of the 20th of September the conditions have put us in a great position to deliver events this year. The Falls Creek SkiMo Challenge Mini-Individual event is designed for participants to compete together on a looped course. The preliminary plan is for multiple ascents and descents in the terrain between Scotts Chair and Ruined Castle, with the start/finish area out the front of Dicky Knees in Sun Valley. All levels of experience are welcome; whether you're a newcomer to the sport or an elite skimo racer it would be amazing to see you out there racing on the touring gear you have available although I reckon the lighter the better...😉

We can't wait to see both returning athletes and newcomers out amongst the peaks pushing the uphills, enjoying this amazing sport.

All the best,
Brian
