Snow Australia today announced a transition in leadership for its Alpine and Ski Cross program, with Shawn Fleming stepping down from his role as Alpine & Ski Cross Director. Ali Bombardier will take on the position on an interim basis as Snow Australia begins a considered succession process.

For many years, Shawn has been a driving force behind the growth and success of Australian snowsports. From his time as Ski Cross coach to his more recent role as Alpine & Ski Cross Director, Shawn has left an indelible mark on the sport at every level.

Under his guidance, athletes have been supported to reach their potential, coaches have been developed and mentored, and clubs across the country have been strengthened. Shawn's commitment to pathway development has helped shape the next generation of alpine talent, ensuring a strong foundation for Australian skiing well into the future.

Snow Australia extends its heartfelt thanks to Shawn for his dedication, expertise and the lasting impact he has had on our sport. His legacy will continue to be felt across clubs, coaching programs and athlete pathways for years to come.

Importantly, this transition has been carefully planned. Shawn has worked closely with Snow Australia to support a smooth handover, reflecting his ongoing commitment to the sport and the people within it. Stepping into the interim Alpine & Ski Cross Director role is Ali Bombardier, who brings extensive experience and a deep understanding of Australian snowsports to the position.

Ali's leadership of the Para Alpine program, along with her broader involvement across Snow Australia’s sports and programs, positions her well to guide the alpine community through this transition. Her appointment ensures continuity of support for clubs, coaches and athletes as the program continues to build on the strong foundations already in place.

To further strengthen operational and administrative capacity within the program, Snow Australia is currently recruiting for an Alpine and Para Sport Administration Coordinator. This new role will provide additional support to the alpine community, helping ensure coaches, clubs and athletes continue to receive the service and resources they need.

Details of the role are available here.

Snow Australia remains committed to supporting the Alpine and Ski Cross community through this transition and beyond. With a thoughtful succession plan in place, a new administrative role on the horizon, and Ali Bombardier's experienced leadership guiding the program in the interim, the future of Australian alpine skiing remains in good hands.

Throughout this transition, Snow Australia is eager to understand the community’s voice, and seek feedback on the future of Alpine Skiing in Australia. A community and club survey is now open - click here to find out more
