Olympians Inspire the Next Generation at the ACT-Southern NSW Interschools Championships

The 2026 SUBARU ACT and Southern NSW Interschools Snowsport Championships welcomed a special group of guests last week as Snow Australia Interschools hosted an Olympic Showcase Day - from Interschools to the Olympics.

The initiative brought Olympians back to the Interschools environment where many began their journeys, to support and connect with student competitors. Not too long ago, the Olympians themselves competed in the Regional Interschools Snowsport Championships.

On hand on the day was:

• Valentino Guseli – Red Hill PS ACT, Narooma PS, Narooma HS

• Cooper Woods – Pambula PS, Lumen Christi Catholic College, Jindabyne Central School (winter only)

• Charlotte Wilson – Snowy Mountains Grammar and PLC Sydney

• Abbey Wilson - Snowy Mountains Grammar and PLC Sydney

• Abi Harrigan – Jindabyne Central School

• Kyra Wheatley – Pymble Ladies College

Throughout the afternoon, athletes spent time on course engaging directly with competitors, surprising students at the top of event courses, and providing encouragement before they took to the start gate. 

The celebrations continued with a meet and greet session, where students and families enjoyed the chance to chat with athletes, ask questions and collect autographs. Athletes also joined the afternoon presentations, helping to recognise the achievements of competitors from across the region.

The day concluded with a special Women of Winter panel discussion, The Athlete and Mother Journey. The event brought together Cooper, Val, and Abi, along with their mothers Katrina, Kristen, and Julianne, to share their experiences balancing elite sport, family support, and personal aspirations.
