Northern NSW & QLD Interschools Championships wrap up in Perisher

Published Fri 11 Jul 2025

The Travelplan Ski Northern NSW & QLD Interschools Championships wrapped up today at Perisher, with 926 students from 137 schools taking part across 1,846 event entries — a 19% increase from last year.

Over four days of exciting competition, students showcased their skills in Alpine, Ski Cross, Moguls, Snowboard GS, and Snowboard Cross events.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our dedicated volunteer course officials, whose efforts were especially appreciated given the challenging snow conditions. Your contribution is invaluable.

We also sincerely thank the 138 School Coordinators, more than 200 team managers, and the many parents and supporters who made this event possible.

A special thanks to Perisher Mountain Operations and the Race Department for keeping the courses running smoothly despite the tough conditions.

Abbey Wilson, NSWIS Snowboard Cross athlete, was on hand to present medals at one of the award presentations. Abbey herself competed in Interschools from primary school years. Reflecting on Interschools, Abbey noted:

“Interschools was so much fun. I did it from Year 2 until Year 12 only finishing September last year and it was a way that really introduced me to racing and to the sports that I now continue and love to do. I got to compete in a team with some of my best friends from school, which was amazing”.

Advice Abbey would give to kids wanting to pursue that next level in the pathway is to “keep doing what you love and do it for you, don’t do it for anyone else. That is my biggest tip and I don’t think I would have come this far if I didn’t do it like that. And I would also say really trust in the process and trust the not so good results, trust the good results, have faith in yourself and be prepared for a little disappointment but use that to push yourself further and it doesn’t matter where the disappointment is in a running race, a swimming race or a snowboard race you can always better yourself from those results”.

Abbey had two favourite memories from Interschools. “My top one is my first ever Interschools race which was Cross Country and I got dragged onto the bus to go to Mt Buller Nationals and thrown on a set of Cross Country Skis and I did about three or four laps, there is a really good photo of me doing a nice stretch at the start line. My second favourite memory is probably finishing Interschools last year and just being overwhelmed with this emotion of finally I’m done but also oh my gosh, I’m going to miss this more than anything”.

Next week, Thredbo will host the Subaru Sydney Interschools Championships July 15 to 18.
