Double Gold Glory for Paralympian Ben Tudhope at Snowboard Cross World Cups in Sweden

Dual Winter Paralympian Ben Tudhope has won back-to-back gold at the Klövsjö Para Snowboard Cross World Cups.
One week after winning Boardercross silver and Dual Banked Slalom bronze at the World Para Snow Sports Championships in Lillehammer, Norway, the 22-year-old has backed up his World Championships performance to win gold in both SB-LL2 World Cups in Sweden.
With just over a month until the Beijing 2022 Paralympics kicks off, Tudhope has now podiumed in every World Cup event so far this season, and this weekend's results will be another confidence boost for the Sydney-sider aiming for his third Paralympic Games in Beijing.
As the only Australian in the Big Final, Tudhope said he had to play smart to move around his competitors to secure the gold, ahead of Kieth Gabel in silver, Joe Pleban in bronze and Garrett Geros in fourth.
“It was definitely an interesting course with not too much room for passing or overtaking, so I needed a different strategy going into it,” Tudhope said.
“I knew that I really had to commit on my snowboard to get around some tight bends and really know that I’m in control.
“Yesterday was a really good day and I qualified first and got through the heats. Some of the American guys were on point and riding really well, but I was riding smart I would say. They were a bit ahead of me on that tight and tricky course, but I was able to get around both of them who were in front of me when they took a spill to win the gold.”
Sunday’s racing had its own difficulties from mother nature, however Tudhope said he was in his element and felt in control through all the races.
“Today I just felt like it was my day,” he said after winning his second gold in as many days.
“It was challenging conditions with snow and wind and everything up there but I felt great that I was able to pull it off.
“Nothing was going to challenge me today, no one on the course could keep up with me which is kinda cool. I just pulled out of the gate every time and had a good clean run to the bottom and ended up on top in the big final.”
