Australian Snowboard Cross Team ready for Junior World Championships in St Morritz

Australia’s emerging snowboard cross athletes are set to line up at the FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski Junior World Championships in St Moritz from 13-21 March, taking on one of the most challenging courses on the international calendar.

For 18-year-old Angus Young, it will be his second appearance at Junior Worlds and a return to a venue he knows well.

“I’m feeling super excited for my second Junior World Championship, it was so much fun last season,” Young said.

“I feel my riding has progressed a lot since then and I’m looking forward to showing that.

“I competed in a junior race at St Moritz a couple seasons ago and trained there last year.

“It is a sick course and I'm looking forward to coming back again.”

Heading into the championships, his focus is clear.

“My goal for the event is to put down my best run every time so I know I did the best I could,” he said.

“I also would like to do the team event this time which is something I missed out on last year.”

19-year-old Marci Davis-Cook will contest her third Junior World Championships and arrives in strong form after a career-best Europa Cup result earlier this season.

“This will be the third time I have represented Australia at the Junior World Championships,” Davis-Cook said.

“I’ve improved my ranking each year and it’s always such a privilege to compete for Australia, even more so now after our most successful Winter Olympics campaign.”

Davis-Cook trained on the St Moritz course last year and is looking forward to the challenge.

“I had the opportunity to train on the St Moritz course last year - it’s big, it’s fast and the resort itself is like a fairytale,” she said.

“My goal is to cross that finish line first, one heat at a time.

“I’ve also just recorded my career-best performance on the Europa Cup circuit with a top 8 finish, so I’m taking some strong form into this year’s Junior Worlds and I’m excited for lots of tight racing with the girls.”

Snow Australia congratulates and wishes the Australian athletes competing the best of luck in St Moritz.
