At just 19 years old, Abbey Wilson stepped onto the world’s biggest sporting stage at Milano Cortina 2026, making her Olympic Winter Games debut alongside her older sister, Charlotte.

The Jindabyne snowboarder arrived at the Games having already made an impressive rise through the sport, progressing from a 2024 Youth Olympic medallist to a senior World Cup racer in just two years.

She finished 23rd in the women’s snowboard cross and returned home with the experience of her first Olympic Games under her belt.

“Milano Cortina was super, super fun,” Wilson said.

“I wasn't fully sure if I was gonna be able to go, and so I was really happy and excited that I was selected in the end.”

For Wilson, the opportunity to experience an Olympic Games at such a young age was something she embraced.

“It was amazing to be there with the team, to be around everyone, and to really just experience an Olympic Games, especially since I was only 19,” she said.

Since returning from Milano Cortina, Wilson has continued to build her experience on the international circuit, completing the remainder of the World Cup season before returning home to Jindabyne.

Now 20, her focus has shifted towards consistency and continuing to establish herself among the world’s best snowboard cross athletes.

“My goals are definitely to try and consistently qualify on the World Cup circuit," she said.

“I would love to be continuously qualifying and being in that top 16 every single weekend and every single race.

“The long term goal is just to keep working and pushing myself really hard, to be able to go into 2030 feeling very strong and ready to rip.”

Wilson is taking that same mindset into the next stage of her career, using advice on embracing nerves as excitement as she looks to build on her Olympic debut, chase further World Cup success and work towards 2030.

“There is no difference between your feelings of being nervous and being excited. Your brain registers it the exact same way. It's just the way that you deal with it and the way that you put it back out,” she said.

“So I always tell myself if I'm really nervous, I'm just super excited and I'm ready to go and I know what I need to do.”
