Attention - Update 27 July

As of 27 July, the Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club has handed back the organisation of these Australian Championships to Snow Australia. The new OC will wait until after the forecast precipitation on Tuesday/Wednesday to make a call about the event and potential modified courses or formats if necessary.

Any competitors who entered via the original BNSC registration link do not need to re-register.

Event Details

Saturday 1 August - Australian Open / Para Sprint Championship - Classic

    • Bib Collection - 8.30 to 9.00am in the Nordic Bowl
    • Qualification starting rounds will commence at 9.30am.
    • Quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals will follow at appropriate intervals.

Sunday 2 August -  Australian Open / Para / Masters 15km Distance Championship - Freestyle

    • Bib Collection 8.30 - 9.15am in the Nordic Bowl
    • Race starts at 10.00am.

Entry Fees - $75 per single event or $120 for both events

Online Entries 

Online entries will close Friday July 31 at midday.

This is a non-fluor event. The use of fluor wax is prohibited. By entering this event, all competitors are agreeing to abide by this policy.

Age Groups (age at 31st December, 2026)
Classes: U20, U23, Open, Para
Masters Categories: U30, U40, U50, U60, U70, over 70

Presentation

Presentations will be held in the Falls Creek Nordic Bowl shortly after the event.

In the case of event cancellation by the organisers, refunds may apply.

Competition Rules

  • These events are held according to the Snow Australia Cross Country Competition Rules and FIS International Competition Rules (ICR), which are available for download here on the Snow Australia site.
  • Important rules for athletes to be aware of are highlighted in this linked extract from the ICR. These include rules relating to:
    • Classic technique
    • Following the instructions of the Jury and/or the Organising Committee
    • Pole length for classic competition
    • Overtaking
    • Obstruction
  • In addition, athletes should be aware that the jury may set technique zones where only specific techniques may be used.
  • All FIS registered athletes must comply with FIS Commercial Marking regulations, which include a requirement for national emblems to be displayed on any headwear that also displays commercial markings.

Snow Australia Membership & Licences

  • All entrants in the Australian Championships must be Snow Australia members with Cross Country Skiing Sport, National or International racer licence in order to compete.   • International entrants should provide their FIS licence details, or may need to sign up for Snow Australia membership.
