Matthew Nicholls

Discipline: Para Alpine
Paralympic Participation: 1998 Nagano
Medal awarded in: 2021

Matthew Shane Nicholls competed in four events at the 1998 Nagano Winter Paralympic Games, his first and only Paralympic participation. He was one of only four Para-alpine skiers to represent Australia at those Games, after late withdrawals from David Munk and Rod Hacon due to illness and injury deprived the team of two podium hopefuls.

Despite missing out on the medals, Nicholls had a good campaign finishing in the top-10 in the LW1,3,5/7 Giant Slalom (6th) and in the LW1,3,5/7,9 Downhill (10th), where he competed alongside teammate James Paterson. Paterson went on to win the gold medal in that event, one of his two medals in that edition of the Games (the other being a bronze in the LW9 slalom).

Nicholls also took part in the LW1,3,5/7 Super-G (11th) and in the LW6/8 slalom (DNF).
