Vale Stephen "Steve" Weeks

It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Stephen "Steve" Weeks, a respected leader, volunteer, mentor and friend whose contribution to snowsports and ski racing in NSW spanned more than two decades.
Across the NSW Snowsports community, Steve was widely respected for his leadership, integrity and unwavering commitment to the sport. As Chair of NSW Snowsports, he played a pivotal role in bringing together disciplines, clubs, resorts and stakeholders at a time when the sport was evolving and seeking greater collaboration. His measured approach, willingness to listen and ability to build consensus helped strengthen relationships across the industry and provided a stable foundation for future growth.
Steve was a passionate advocate for athlete development and for ensuring opportunities existed for the next generation of snowsports participants. He understood the importance of strong clubs, quality programs and a connected snowsports community, and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to support initiatives that would benefit athletes, coaches and volunteers. The positive influence he had on the sport extended far beyond any single organisation and continues to be felt today.
While many knew Steve through his contribution to NSW Snowsports, his involvement began at a grassroots level through the Thredbo Ski Racing Club. In 1996, his son Chris joined TSRC, with Sam and Nick following in the years that followed. Alongside his wife Deb, Steve became deeply involved in the club and the wider mountain community, spending countless weekends in Thredbo supporting his family and the sport he loved.
What began as supporting his children's skiing grew into decades of remarkable service to TSRC. Steve joined the Board in 2000 and served for 18 years, including an outstanding tenure as President from 2003 to 2014. In recognition of his dedication and leadership, he was awarded Life Membership in 2012.
Despite holding many leadership positions, Steve was never one to stand on the sidelines. Whether helping coaches set courses before first light, putting up and pulling down B-netting, assisting at races, supporting volunteers or encouraging young athletes, he was always prepared to lend a hand. He believed in contributing wherever he was needed and led by example.
Steve's passion for ski racing, TSRC and the broader snowsports community created lasting friendships and left an enduring impact on countless people. The clubs, programs, events and communities he supported are stronger because of his commitment, generosity and vision.
Our heartfelt condolences go to Deb, Chris, Sam and Nick, the extended Weeks family, and Steve's many friends and colleagues throughout the Snow Australia, TSRC and our ski racing and mountain communities.
