The Snow Australia Community Sport Awards are back!

Despite challenging lockdown periods and prolonged travel restrictions having a significant impact on our domestic winter season for the second year in a row, Snow Australia is pleased to announce that the Community Sport Awards (CSA) is back on the calendar for 2021.

The CSA were established two years ago to complement the annual Snow Australia Awards, traditionally held at the end of the Northern Hemisphere season, with the first Community Sport Awards night held in Canberra on 7 November 2019.

“We introduced the Community Sport Awards to recognise the contribution of volunteers, clubs, schools, coaches, athletes and programs at the development and pathway level of snow sports,” explained Snow Australia CEO Michael Kennedy.

The first CSA event was a huge success, but unfortunately it could not be repeated as Snow Australia was forced to cancel the second edition due to the COVID-19 outbreaks in 2020. But after dealing with this extraordinary situation for 18 months, the organisation felt that having the awards back would send a positive message and provide an opportunity to recognise those that have worked so hard over that period to keep our sport going.

“There has never been a time where acknowledging the snow sport community and saying thank you for its continued efforts and support was more important,” Kennedy said. “Equally, we’d like to recognise the athletes, their coaches and programs who have adapted to the challenges brought on by the pandemic and continued to pursue success in their disciplines, despite the circumstances.”

Due to the ongoing restrictions, the 2021 CSA will be delivered in a virtual format in November. Award categories have been adapted to reflect the disruption of the last two seasons.

Nominations are now open and close 29 September. The snow community is encouraged to nominate worthy individuals, programs and clubs that meet the selection criteria for the Community Sport Awards.
