SNOWBOARD: Olympic bronze medallist Tess Coady has secured another finals spot at Beijing 2022 after finishing qualifying seventh in the women's snowboard big air.

Her fellow Aussie snowboarder Matt Cox didn't have much luck, with the 23-year-old finishing his first Olympic campaign in 28th at Shougang's 64-metre high and 164-metre big air long ramp, the world's first permanent big air venue.

Tess was pleased with her performance and is planning step up her difficulty in the finals tomorrow.

"Today I just wanted to get a couple of good runs and get through to the finals. I played it safe and just wanted to qualify," Tess said.

"That was great. It felt like finals.

"It was a really long day. I've got to head back [to the village] and recover now. I'm not used to competing so early in the morning but that's the same for most of us. We wouldn't ever ride this early usually."

Her competition for the finals features the Beijing 2022 snowboard slopestyle gold medallist Zoi Sadowski-Synnott from New Zealand, who will be looking to take her second gold of the Games. Having qualified in first position she has shown she's the one to beat.
