With the Alpine World Cup season in momentum, three Australians are set to compete at the Slalom World Cup in Gurgl (AUT) this weekend, Hugh McAdam, Louis Muhlen-Schulte, and Sophie Mahon.
Fresh from her World Cup debut in Levi (FIN), Mahon is eager to test herself on new terrain she believes will play to her strengths.
“The (Gurgl) slope is more technically steep than flat, which is the kind of terrain that has always suited my skiing best,” she said.
“It’s also a very new addition to the World Cup circuit, so getting the chance to tackle a course that’s still fresh to everyone makes it even more exciting.
“After my debut in Levi, Finland, I’m taking a lot more confidence and clarity into this next event.
“Getting that first race under my belt helped me understand the pace, the environment, and what it truly takes to execute at this level, as well as how important it is to stay focused on my own skiing. I’m using everything I learned in Levi to come into this race sharper and ready to build on what I started,” she said.
With experience competing on the Austrian slopes, McAdam is equally enthusiastic about the challenge ahead.

“I’m most looking forward to this World Cup as Austria draws some big crowds and the atmosphere there is some of the best in the world. Really feels like a celebration for skiing when you’re there,” McAdam said.
“I would also say I’m looking forward to racing this hill as the steeper slopes suit my skiing style at the moment and definitely feel more confident with that terrain.
“I’m looking forward to pushing hard, grabbing the opportunity and backing myself,” he said.
The Gurgl Slalom World Cup kicks off on 22 November with the men’s event, followed by the women’s race on 23 November.
