Snow Academy is the umbrella for all of Snow Australia's education and training pathway and programs. Coaching Fundamentals is the first level of coaching accreditation to be rolled out under the Snow Academy.

Course: XC Coach 1-Day Technique Workshop

Date: Tuesday 19 August, 2025

When: 9:00am - 2:00pm

Location: Perisher

Who is this course for? New, current, and former cross country ski coaches.

This workshop is designed for coaches working with school, club and state level athletes and covers the basics of teaching classic and freestyle techniques for cross country ski racing. Topics include technique fundamentals, what to look for when refining skier technique, using apps and video for evaluating technique, and tips and tricks for getting everything to "click". For existing and former coaches, the workshop provides an opportunity to refresh your understanding of ski technique and see the current approach for technique development followed by national team coaches.

Course Fee

  • $120

Pre-requisites:

  • All participants must have current Snow Australia membership (any category).
  • All candidates are encouraged to complete the Sport Australia Community Coaching Essential Skills course on the Snow Academy before attending the workshop.

APSI certification

  • To become a certified Snow Australia Coach all participants should have APSI Cross Country Level 2 certification unless they have RPL approved by the Snow Australia Cross Country Program Director.

Course Content/Schedule 

The XC 1-day technique workshop covers the following material:

  • Classic techniques (diagonal stride, double pole, kick-double pole & herringbone)
  • Freestyle techniques (offset, single-time, double-time & free skate)
  • Cornering techniques
  • Basic video analysis

The day schedule will be communicated directly with registered participants.

Equipment

Classic and freestyle ski equipment are required. Participants should arrive at the workshop with ski equipment ready to head out onto the snow.
