Alpine Director Update - October 2026

Dear Alpine Community,

The six weeks since the end of the 2026 Australian winter season have flown by! While the season was certainly impacted by the weather, there were also some fantastic skiing opportunities and events. I hope everyone has had a chance to reflect on the season and read our 2026 Season Wrap.

Planning for the 2027 season is already underway, with the event calendar taking shape and expected to be ready within the next month.

With the 2026/27 FIS Alpine World Cup season underway with the first races held in Sölden, Austria last weekend, we look forward to seeing the first Aussies in action at Levi, Finland, in the first SL World Cup of the season Nov 14 & 15. Live streaming is available via SnowLive - the Northern Hemisphere winter is officially underway!

Many athletes, coaches and programs are now preparing for international competition, and we have included some key information below to help with planning for the season ahead.

I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce Tamasin Jones, who has joined the Snow Australia team as our Alpine & Para Snowsports Administration Coordinator. Tamasin brings valuable experience from more than 10 seasons in the Australian snowsports industry and will play an important role in supporting our Alpine and Para Snowsports programs and helping ensure our activities run smoothly. Please join me in welcoming Tamasin to the team.

Next month, we will share a preview of the 2026–27 international season. In the meantime, I encourage the Alpine community to reflect on the 2026 Australian winter and the events and programs delivered by Snow Australia, our clubs and the committees that support our sport.

We are always looking for ways to improve and strengthen Alpine skiing in Australia. If you have feedback on the season, ideas for new initiatives or suggestions for how we can better support our community, we would love to hear from you.

The Alpine National Discipline Committee will also meet in November to review the past season and plan for 2027. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback through our end-of-season survey. If you have any further thoughts to share, please email Alpine@snow.org.au.

Thank you for your continued support and contribution to Australian Alpine skiing. We look forward to working with you as we prepare for the 2027 season.

Kind regards,
Ali Bombardier

Competing Overseas at FIS Events – Insurance, Entries and EOIs

If you are heading overseas for training and competition (FIS) this Northern Hemisphere winter, please take the time to review the information below regarding insurance, competition entries and Expressions of Interest (EOIs).

It is important to have your EOI and insurance arrangements in place early to help ensure a smooth competition entry process. Different levels of FIS competition have specific quotas and eligibility criteria, so early planning is essential.

The same process applies to FIS Children’s races (U16/U14), with additional information on the selection process provided in the document linked below. If you have any questions after reviewing the information, please contact Alpine@snow.org.au.
