Snowboard Community Update - December 2025

Dear Snowboard Community,

The International season has arrived quickly, and what an incredible start for our Australian athletes! Over the past week, we have seen outstanding performances in Pitztal at the Snowboard Cross European Cup and Junior FIS events. Congratulations to Josie Baff, who claimed gold in the Women’s event! In the Men’s competition, Adam Lambert narrowly missed the podium with a strong fourth-place finish, while James Johnstone placed seventh and Cameron Bolton ninth. In the Junior FIS events, Abbey Wilson delivered back-to-back podium finishes, second in the first competition and gold in the second. In the men’s Junior competition, Cameron Turner dominated with consecutive gold medals, William Martin placed fifth in the first event and joined the podium in the second, taking away the Silver medal! In addition, Angus Young achieved two impressive top eight results.

Ben Tudhope
and Aaron McCarthy have kicked off their World Cup campaign in Landgraaf with impressive performances. Ben secured a strong 4th place finish in his opening event, while Aaron achieved a career milestone with his first-ever top 10 result on day two. 

Outstanding achievements from our Aussie athletes, what a fantastic way to kick off the northern season!

Looking ahead, this week Millie Bongiorno and Harvey Edmanson will compete in their first World Cup of the season on December 6 in Mylin, China. Next week, the first Snowboard Cross World Cup kicks off in Cervinia, Italy on December 12. Don’t miss the excitement, tune in to SnowLive to watch all the Aussies in action!

Expressions of interest for the Snowboard Alpine and Snowboard Cross 2026 FIS Junior World Championships are now open! To submit your interest, you must hold the appropriate Snow Australia membership and meet the Junior World Championships eligibility criteria. Snow Australia is proud to announce the 2025/26 Snowboard Cross (SBX) National Team, featuring a world-class mix of Olympic medallists, rising stars and some of the most consistent performers on the international circuit.

Following one of the most successful seasons in Australian SBX history, the team is once again stacked with talent and experience, led by seasoned World Cup contenders Cam Bolton, Josie Baff and Adam Lambert, alongside Olympic silver medallist Jarryd Hughes as he makes his return to competition.

Entry process and requirements for competing overseas

If you are planning on competing in FIS sanctioned events overseas this northern winter, Snow Australia remains your single point of entry for all disciplines. To assist with your planning we have a dedicated webpage with instructions, forms and information to help streamline the process. Visit our Competing Overseas page to get started.

The Entry Process

  1. Membership and FIS Registration - All competitors must maintain a current Snow Australia membership at the 'International' level for your discipline. Check your membership here, join or renew here, upgrade here.

  2. Competition Insurance - It is a FIS requirement that Snow Australia ensures all competitors have insurance in place that meets the minimum requirements as per the FIS rules (FIS ICR 212.3). If you are unable to source your own insurance Snow Australia has identified some policies that meet the FIS requirements. More information on each of these policies is available below or on the Competition Insurance page of the website. Before purchasing insurance please make sure it meets your personal requirements.

  3. Expression of Interest - Submit your EOI listing the overseas events you wish to be considered for. Before submitting your EOI make sure you are eligible to compete by meeting the event criteria for the requested events. Once submitted Snow Australia staff will confirm receipt of your EOI and keep you up to date with the entry process. Please ensure you submit your EOI to entries@snow.org.au within the published timelines. Please note that submitting an EOI does not guarantee your entry as eligiblity and quota rules will need to be applied.

Baff Breaks through for victory in season opener

Australia’s boardercross team kicked off their season at the Pitztal European Cup overnight, where Josie Baff claimed victory in the women’s event and Lambert secured fourth place in the men’s big final. With the first of two events cancelled, the Aussies had to wait an additional day to get their season underway and Baff started the best possible way taking out the win in her first competition of the season.

On a quiet farm just outside the NSW Riverina town of The Rock, life moves to the rhythm of harvests, machinery and the joy of young children.

It’s here, among the barley paddocks, that Para-snowboarder Aaron McCarthy has forged the qualities now defining his rise in sport: steadiness, resilience and the kind of pragmatic optimism that grounds rural Australian life.

Days ago, McCarthy was racing to bring in the barley before boarding a flight to Europe. Now, speaking from The Netherlands, he’s starting his final push towards a dream he once clung to from a hospital bed – representing Australia at the Milano Cortina Paralympic Games.

PERFORMANCE PATHWAY MANAGER

Snow Australia is seeking an experienced and collaborative leader to oversee the strategic development and operational delivery of our national performance pathway. The role drives athlete progression from talent identification through to elite preparation across all Olympic and Paralympic disciplines, ensuring strong alignment with Snow Australia’s high-performance goals. Reporting to the General Manager – Sport and part of the leadership team, the Performance Pathway Manager provides oversight of Emerging and Developing athlete programs, supports coach development and education frameworks, and strengthens Daily Training Environments (DTEs). The position also leads Para development initiatives, talent search activities and pathway program planning across the FTEM/Athlete Development Framework.

The National Snowsports Training Centre (NSTC) in Jindabyne is seeking an enthusiastic and highly organised Program Coordinator to join our team and support the delivery of programs and services across our Acro and Park facilities, catering to community, emerging talent and elite performance athletes. The NSTC Program Coordinator plays a key role in supporting day-to-day program delivery, staff coordination and customer engagement. Working closely with the NSTC General Manager and Operations Manager, you will help ensure programs run smoothly, safely and to an exceptional standard. This role offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic, fast-paced environment and contribute to Australia’s winter sports pathway.
