Women of Winter program successfully launched with inspiring leadership webinar

Published Fri 21 May 2021

Last week Snow Australia successfully launched its ‘Women of Winter’ (WoW) program with the first of a series of live webinars.

Three of the most successful female leaders within the snow industry participated in the inaugural event, with the panel comprising Olympic champion aerialist Alisa Camplin-Warner AM, 2020 & 2022 Australian Paralympic Team Chef de Mission Kate McLoughlin and Belinda Trembath, Vail Resorts' general manager for Victoria and Mt Hotham.

More than 90 people registered with Snow Australia to hear the inspirational panellists discuss the topic of leadership, which will also be the main focus of the next two WoW webinars, scheduled for release on 27 May and on 3 June 2021.

Sydney 2000 Beach Volleyball Olympic champion Kerri Pottharst moderated the webinar. Herself an acclaimed keynote speaker, she admitted that she loved hosting such incredible leaders as they shared valuable life lessons with the audience.

“Alisa, Kate and Belinda were so open and fun. They shared such powerful stories and I am sure every single person attending the webinar or watching it online will be able to get many helpful takeaways,” Pottharst said.

Amongst other things, Alisa Camplin focused on the importance of preparation for leaders, which is something she succesfully translated from her sporting life into her other life endeavours.

“You always need to hone your skills, so I practice the things I want to do. I am a big believer in training and preparing, because that gives you courage,” she said.

Belinda Trembath highlighted how important it is to strive for the right work/life balance to ensure leaders are able to perform at their best.

“This is something that I find really important when we are bringing leaders into our business, so they can be successful,” she said.

The three panellists also shared some of the personal experiences and the difficult choices which contributed to making them the leaders they are today. Kate McLoughlinsaid she didn’t know she was pregnant when she was announced as the Chef de Mission for Sochi 2014.

“At the same time, my mum was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It was the hardest decision of my career to give up that role, but I knew it was the right decision for myself, for my family and for the team,” McLaughlin said.

The video replay of the webinar can be found on the Snow Australia YouTube channel.

Details of the upcoming courses can be find below, with more information available at the 'Women of Winter' Hub.
